PathSnagger 2.1 Betas Seeded

I’ve started what I hope will be a short beta-test period for version 2.1 of PathSnagger. This is a major rework from the previous versions. In truth, it’s a completely new application. It now works in OS X 10.7 (Lion), and is much more configurable than the previous releases. You can read the (in progress) Help file to whet your appetite.

@dani, I’m trying to wrap up 2.1b2, which will hopefully be the final beta. You can grab the first one if you join the mailing list and search the archives.

@raul, can you elaborate on this? What isn’t working? What did you do?

I’m interested in looking at this. Even the beta… Let me know when you have something ready to share.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or if it’s just how it works — but I’ve installed and upgraded to the beta; when trying to grab the windows file path it still won’t work as a clickable link on a PC (tried them all, tried clicking different checkbox’d options etc.). I’m no computer genius 🙁

This just seemed like such a perfect solution to what I was looking for!!

I just noticed something with 2.1b2. It opens but then lingers for around 3-5 seconds before quitting itself. It did this from the get-go, but I forgot how much faster it was previously until I used it heavily today.

I’ve reverted back to 2.1b1 and it opens and quits MUCH faster (probably launches and quits within 1 second).

I’m using Mac OS 10.6.8 with all the latest updates for it as of 06-24-2012.

Something within the code of 2.1b2 makes it stall for a few seconds after it opens. Thought you’d like to know!

This is simply the best shareware for the task. I’ve been using it now for a few years. The fact you can do UNIX, Mac and Windows is invaluable to me. It saves a TON of time. Let me know when you want to charge a shareware fee and I’ll be the first to contribute.

@jon My fault, sorry! 2.0b2 was sitting in my ~/Downloads folder and somehow had the “Snag path Unix”, “Snag path HFS”, “Snag path file” and “Snag path Windows” services attached to it . “Snag path” was associated with 2.1b2 and worked fine, but I didn’t notice it in the list.

A couple of suggestions: How about moving the app to the menubar? Also, would be very nice to hear a chime of some sort, when the path is copied. And being able to drag a file or a folder to the menubar icon to copy its path woud be priceless! That’s similar to how Cloud.app works, btw 🙂

    Overall, good job! Thanks!

@Artem, those are some great suggestions. There is support for Notification Center, but audio feedback is a good idea as well. Glad it’s working for you!

    Jon,

Would it be possible for me to get a copy of the 2.1 beta? I need the option to NOT escape the spaces in the Unix format. OS 10.8.3 doesn’t like backslashes in the “Go to Folder…” command.

    Dear Jon
I’m, as many people, working in a PC world company, but my R&D department lunched a trial for using Mac in a Bryng you Own Mac project.
I’m collaborate with my colleagues using PC with Win7 by sharing link on documents.
I’m running OS 10.8.2 (12C3006). It is possible to get a copy of your 2.1 beta or last version of the beta SW for testing in my environment ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Alain

Mark, Alain: I’ve added the link to the ML-compatible version in the sidebar. The one that says “Current Beta Release for OS X 10.7 and Up”.

Howdy. Having a little trouble getting PathSnagger 2.1b2 to work on Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). Seems to work fine on 10.8.3, but not 10.7 for some reason. App launches, stays open, but no context menu item for Snag Path.

How do you make a clickable link to someone’s local Google Drive or Dropbox folder (omitting the user account short name)?

Sorry for the huge delay. I didn’t see this comment waiting for approval. Did you check the Console? There might be some messages in there that would help.
